As the largest home-delivered meal program in Bexar County, Meals on Wheels of San Antonio prepares, packages, and delivers over 900,000 meals annually to homebound seniors in our community. The program is fortunate to manage staff and a small fleet of trucks to deliver meals, but almost half of the deliveries are performed by volunteers.
On a rotating basis each weekday, volunteers throughout the county donate their lunch hour to deliver meals in close proximity to where they work or live. Civic groups, churches, and corporations are now signing up to be official meal delivery partners of the program in where employees (members) take ownership of a delivery route nearby so that elderly neighbors don’t go hungry during the lunch hour.
To date, Meals on Wheels has partnered with St. Mary’s University, Our Lady of the Lake University, Southwest Research Institute, St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, La Trinidad United Methodist Church, Galilee Baptist Church, Haven for Hope, and Frost Bank (downtown) to help the program deliver meals here in the Westside. However, with such a high demand for services, Meals on Wheels is seeking more partners located on or near the Westside to help deliver meals Monday – Friday. If you or your company would like to learn more about becoming an official meal delivery partner of the program, please check out the program video and contact Meals on Wheels at (210) 735 – 5115 or visit www.christianseniorservices.org.
