On Saturday, September 25, visitors and residents participated in the inaugural Go! Historic SA Guided Tour of the Westside. Through a successful collaboration between the WDC, Office of Historic Preservation, District 5 Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales, Mexican American Unity Council, Westside Preservation Alliance, and the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center, the guided walking tour promoted the history, architecture, and stories that make this area unique.
Special thanks to Councilwoman Gonzales, Ms. Eloise Gonzales, Mr. Francisco and Laura Martinez, The Creamery, and American Sunrise for opening their doors to the public to get a special inside-look at their historic structures.
The Go! Historic SA Guided Tour of the Westside is a collaborative effort promoting the history and culture of the city's oldest Mexican-American neighborhood and falls under the Look West marketing program of the WDC. Through aggressive marketing of the unique arts and culture of the Westside, the Look West program encourages developers to reinvest in the area, thus attracting new and returning residents.
